Sybil Fisher

My name is Sybil Fisher. I am one of the Special Education teachers at Carrollton Classical Academy. I am happy to be part of the "Faculty of Friends" here at CCA. I look forward to meeting and working with many of the parents, students, and supporters of CCA.

My hometown is Cleburne, Texas which is located 30 miles south of Fort Worth.

I went to Stephen F. Austin State University in the Piney Woods of Deep East Texas in Nacogdoches. I graduated with a B.S. and M.S. in Vocational Home Economics Education - (now known as Family and Consumer Sciences) and a certification in Elementary Education (Interdisciplinary Studies).

My teaching experience includes twelve years as a Home Economics teacher teaching Food and Clothing Services in the East Texas towns of Henderson, Gladewater (Sabine ISD), and Westwood ISD in Palestine, Texas.

Our five wonderful children were home-schooled on six acres near Tyler, Texas. We enjoyed the family closeness that homeschooling afforded and I put all of my Home Economics skills to use! Our family gardened, raised animals and explored many creative and educational projects. My children were, and are, each other's best friends. I taught Elementary Art/Art History at Venture Homeschooling Cooperative. Venture curriculum definitely had a classical emphasis. My three daughters were active in the 4-H Club, of which I was a co-leader for ten years. My sons were active in Boy Scouts at our church.

Beginning in 2009, I re-joined the workforce after a divorce. I worked as a helpdesk specialist for an international environmental education organization - This job was a division at the University of Texas at Tyler.

In 2012 a University Charter School was founded on each of the three University of Texas at Tyler campuses in Tyler, Longview, and Palestine. I consider myself very blessed to have been the Special Education and Dyslexia teacher at University Academy for eight years. UA is a project based learning, STEM school with emphasis in engineering and biomedical. Students can earn up to 40 university college hours at University Academy.

Two of my children are married and they and their spouses are pursuing their careers. No grandchildren yet! My other children are finding their places in the workforce as well.

My 5th child "flew the nest" in December 2019 and I decided it was time to head back to North Texas, my nuclear family and my roots. I am thrilled to be in Carrollton and the DFW metroplex! I am having an adventure in my new town, new apartment and new school! My 2 year old black cat Minnie and I are enjoying our new home.

I thoroughly look forward to being a part of the Carrollton Classical Academy family!
